The redevelopment of the “brownfield” for the new intended use began with the preparation of a project which included: the investigation of building materials suspected of being dangerous; the verification that the industrial refrigeration system does not contain toxic gases. The underground and above-ground tanks were searched and much attention was paid to the course of the sewerage network. The land characterization plan was presented to public bodies. Before demolishing the buildings, the asbestos used as insulation in the cold rooms and on the pipes was removed. The recovery of metals such as steel and copper has been very important on an economic level.
For the remediation of the land, a project was prepared with an “ordinary” procedure with two distinct phases.
In the area corresponding to phase “A” the achievement of the tabular threshold values called CSC was expected.
